Why Choose Kheerganga Trek

Trek Fact: “Kheerganga Trek is the Most Famous Trek in India”

The main attraction of the Parvati Valley is the Kheerganga Trek, a 12-13 kilometer trek that begins in Barshaini and passes through Kalga village. There are two routes to complete this trek: one through Kalga Village, which requires crossing the dam at Barshaini, and the other through Nakthan Village. The route through Kalga Village is more popular among trekkers due to the tree cover along the way. The route through Nakthan Village is more exposed, making it slightly more challenging. Many trekkers choose to take the route through Kalga Village on the way there and return through Nakthan Village to see both routes and also visit Nakthan village and Rudra Waterfall on the way back.

The terrain of the Kheerganga Trek is not too steep, but there are a few challenging sections along the way. Beginners may find it difficult, so it is important to be prepared to carry your own luggage as everyone else is likely to be just as tired. When you start to feel down, remember that the reward at the top is a natural hot water pond with breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains.

Parvati Valley Overview

Kasol – The Mini Israel of India:

Kasol is a charming town located in the Parvati Valley, known for its hot springs and stunning views. It is home to many talented Israelis and their bakeries, where even the simplest of foods like sliced bread taste divine. The nearby villages of Challal, Tosh, and Kutla are all just a day’s trek away from Kasol. All of these locations offer breathtaking views, making them must-visit destinations.

Tosh Village:

Tosh Village is located about an hour and a half drive from Kasol, and can be reached by private taxi or state-run bus from Kasol. Buses go up to Barshaini, which is the base camp for the Kheerganga trek. From Barshaini, it is a 45-minute trek to Tosh Village at a leisurely pace. Tosh Village is known for its cannabis plantations and otherworldly atmosphere. Its fields are surrounded by the beautiful hills of the Parvati Valley, providing a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Trekkers will encounter a mix of locals and foreign travelers, mainly from Israel and Europe, in this small hamlet. It is made up of a few clusters of wooden houses and apple orchards scattered across the snow-capped hills.

Kutla:

Kutla is a picturesque village with only six houses and a few camps for tourists. It is about an hour’s trek from Tosh, and on the way, you will come across a pristine stream that runs through the center of a café. This tranquil off-the-beaten-path village is sure to provide a peaceful escape. The trek to Kutla is beautiful and offers some of the most mesmerizing views of the Parvati valley.

There is a lesser-known 8-day trek from Kutla to Manali that is organized annually by a local trekking company in Kutla. This trek begins in Kutla and takes approximately eight days to complete.

One of the highlights of the trip is Buddha ban, a secluded part of the Parvati Valley that is known for its stunning beauty. When I visited in 2017, Buddha ban was uninhabited and greeted us with our dog guides. It featured snow-capped mountains, a babbling stream, and lush open plains that provided a sense of peace and tranquility. The 45-minute hike from Kutla to Buddha ban is easy and well worth it for the breathtaking views. You won’t even break a sweat because the terrain is relatively flat.

Pulga Village

Pulga is a small village located in the Himachal Pradesh region of India. It is nestled in the Parvati Valley, surrounded by the beautiful Himalayan mountain range. The village is known for its natural beauty, with lush forests and gushing streams providing a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

One of the main attractions in Pulga is the Pulga Waterfall, which is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. The waterfall is located just a 30-minute trek from the village, and offers a serene setting to relax and take in the beauty of the surroundings. The village itself is small, with only a few accommodations available for travelers. However, these accommodations offer stunning views of the valley, making it a worthwhile destination for those seeking a peaceful getaway.

In addition to the waterfall and beautiful scenery, Pulga is also known for its local cuisine. The village is home to a number of small restaurants and cafes that serve traditional Himachali dishes, as well as Israeli and European fare. The village is also a hub for cannabis cultivation, and visitors can try locally grown strains in the many cafes and lounges in the area.

Overall, Pulga is a charming and serene destination that is perfect for those looking to escape the stresses of daily life and connect with nature. Its combination of beautiful landscapes, peaceful atmosphere, and delicious cuisine make it a must-visit destination in Himachal Pradesh.
